I grabbed this one up several months ago when Myer had a 10% off beauty coupon, so it was a good opportunity to try out this highly popular product for a slight discount.
According to Kiehl’s the key ingredients are avocado oil, beta-carotene and shea butter. According to the ingredient’s list, shea butter is listed second, avocado oil is listed eighth and beta-carotene comes in last (25th). Nonetheless the first thing you notice when you see the cream is that it is an almost bright yellow/green colour like the inside of an avocado.
The texture is quite different to other eye creams. It is slightly lighter and runnier than a traditional skin or eye “cream” – almost like a thick cream mixed with a bit of water. It may look scary and green, but as you pat it into your skin, it quickly looks a lot less scary.
What’s quite different about this eye cream is it takes quite a bit of work to move it around or pat it into the skin. It doesn’t get absorbed into the skin immediately and has a sticky texture. Initially it leaves a rather shiny residue on the skin and may look oily but personally I like how thick this initially feels around the eye area. I usually don’t notice it after several minutes, and if I’m using it in the morning, by the time I’m doing my makeup I don’t notice the residue at all. I prefer to use it quite liberally at night because of how moisturising and hydrating it is to my eye area. This means I tend to overuse though…!
I also like the packaging and how simple and not bulky it is. It’s just a small white screw jar – no frills but light and perfectly easy to use and to take travelling.
Overall this is a really intensive and hydrating eye cream that I prefer to use at night time, but it takes a bit of time to really absorb into the skin and may be a touch oily at first.
